The Hunger Games

Okay so this last Friday I went to Barnes and Noble and bought about $78 worth of books. One of them was the Hunger Games. (I should probably say that there is a slight spoiler in here. Though anyone who is reading the book probably has expectations that go along with what I say in here. I have no idea if that made any sense.) Anyway this is a really intense book. The idea of the book is really revolting- people being forced to kill each other, until there is one person left, who is the "winner"- but as you are reading the book you are drawn in, and you have to know what is going to happen! The entire time my heart was pounding. In the book you see the worst of people, but you also see the best of people. I am now impatiently waiting for the sequel to come out. I have a feeling that the whole story will end up being about the people overthrowing their Government- who forces them to take part in the Hunger Games, and basically keeps all of them prisoners. I am really hoping that Katniss gets with Peeta- I had been hoping at first that it would be Gale (I think that is his name, I forget) and her, that would get together, but I think that she really needs someone who brings out her softer side. Peeta would help her feel that she doesn't have to be so hard. The author (whose name I forget) is talented at weaving a story, though there were times I found myself frustrated with the writing style. Anyway I wouldn't say it was a great read, because to say that makes it sound like the book is light and happy, rather it's dark and intense- it is a book that draws you in, and holds you in its grip.

So I've decided that I wasn't going to just write about fiction books. There is this photographer I really love, Jim Brandenburg. Years ago I got this book called "Brother Wolf", and it has some amazing photo's of wolves, and absolutely gorgeous pictures of the woods. Well then last year I was at Seagull Book, and I was looking at their discounted books when I saw this book called, "Looking for the Summer" I was looking at the pictures, and I thought, "These photo's are similar in style to the ones in "Brother Wolf"". So I looked at the back cover about the author and one of the books listed that he did was none other than "Brother Wolf"! So I had to buy the book. :) The photo's are very beautiful, and when I look at the pictures I am filled with both peace and some envy. :P There is a magical beauty to some of them, and in others a serene, gentle feel. Brandenburg is a very talented photographer!
